The festivals new director, Tamara Lee Fulkerson, a freelance

New York, is leading this event, which is rapidly becoming one of the
largest southern film festivals.
The festival, which runs from Friday, Sept. 8, through

We are very excited about the Oldham 8 venue, and
believe La Grange is the ideal place for a film festival that brings
fresh, independent and aspiring talent from across the globe,
Fulkerson said.
Excellent! Entertaining! Thought-provoking! Moving! These are
just a few of the adjectives Ive used to describe the film festival,
lauded State Sen. Ernie Harris, an Oldham County resident.
Many thanks go to another Oldham County resident, famed three-time Kentucky
Derby poster artist, Sonny Whittle, for creating the new logo for the
2006 Bluegrass Independent Film Festival.
Whittle has created three Derby posters in the past 20 years. His designs
are among the top sellers in the history of the poster series. He jokingly
said this is because people like them.
And the Oldham County Arts Association loves its new festival logo and
would like to sincerely thank him for his creative contribution to this
years festival.
The festival will showcase independent films from eight
different categories: Features, Shorts, Documentaries, Comedies, Foreign,
Animation-Claymation, Best Student Filmmaker and Best Regional Filmmaker.
Audiences will join a panel of judges to view and vote on the films
and will also have the invaluable opportunity to meet some of the filmmakers
and ask questions.
The winners in each film category will receive cash awards and plaques.
Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at
the Great Escape Oldham 8, with opening remarks and introductions of
special guests and filmmakers.
In addition to dozens of film screenings, festival attendees will have
many opportunities to meet the filmmakers at the theater and also at
several parties planned throughout the weekend.
The festival allows Oldham County to show off its beautiful rural settings
as well as its southern hospitality. Social venues include Yew Dell
Gardens and Waldeck Mansion in Crestwood, and Irish Rover Too in La
Grange.
The Oldham County Arts Association, founded by a group of interested
artists and supporters of the arts, is dedicated to bringing the arts
to Oldham County.
