(March 2009) Sean Ramey believes the art of
Tae Kwon Do is more than just punching and kicking. Thanks to the effort
of the 15th annual Oldham County Chamber of Commerce, he will be able
to prove his point to the community through the 2009 Showcase Oldham
County.

Ramey and his students will be giving a Tae Kwon Do demonstration
as part of the Showcase entertainment lineup on Saturday, March 7. Held
at the Oldham County YMCA Soccer Complex in Buckner, the Showcase is
open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Im honored to be a part of the Showcase, said Ramey.
Its a great way to reach out to the community. Rameys
demonstration of basic movements and kicking appropriate for all ages
is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Martial arts are not about fighting, he said. Its
for all ages, male and female.
Ramey said he tries to do as much for the community as he can. Most
of the time Oldham County residents have to go to Louisville for business,
but the Showcase provides good reasons to conduct business and entertainment
within the county.

This years Showcase offers all of its traditional
features, said Deana Epperly Karem, executive director of the
Oldham County Chamber of Commerce. There will be access to at least
80 Oldham County businesses, attractions and agencies, a new car show,
hot air balloon, all day mini health fair and live, local entertainment.
This year free workshops have been added, said Karem. Topics include
Resume Writing, Interview Preparation, Babysitting 101, Homework without
Tears, and an Internet security speaker. Free paper shredding will be
conducted in the parking lot by A+ Paper Shredding. A Family Zone will
feature face painting, inflatables, free art projects for kids and the
Mortenson Tooth Fairy.
The Showcase will actually kick off on Friday, March 6, with business-to-business
networking and luncheon, featuring keynote speaker David Dubofsky, a
finance professor at the University of Louisville.
He has been a visiting academic scholar for the Office of Economic Analysis
at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, a professor and department
chair at Virginia Commonwealth University, and also held endowed professorships
at Texas A&M University and Seattle University. Duboksky has
published more than 25 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals.
He is the author of two finance textbooks.
Fridays luncheon is being sponsored by Norton Brownsboro Hospital
and will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
This years theme is focused on Live. Work. Play. Buy Oldham
County! Karem said. So this year is focused on supporting
local businesses more than ever.
Baptist Hospital Northeast sponsors the Showcase. Nursing Support Educator
Barbara Chesher is also on the Showcase Oldham County Committee that
organizes this event. This is an excellent opportunity to promote
your business and reach out and find out what the community needs,
said Chesher.
In addition to providing a mini health fair, the hospital
will be conducting glucose screenings, pulmonary testing, blood pressure
checks and diagnostic imaging with bone density screenings. Emergency
room doctor, Dr. Andrew Rochet, will conduct Answers Close To
You, where individuals can ask medical questions.
Workshops sponsored by Baptist Hospital Northeast include information
on basic CPR, instructions on how to be a safe sitter and information
on the hospitals Safe Sitter program, how to eat healthy through
nutritional services, and a power point presentation on how to look
up Health Encyclopedia online, a service offered at the hospital.
Two baskets will be raffled off, said Chesher. One is a Craft Tower
consisting of a Rubbermaid childs tower filled with arts and craft
supplies. This basket includes a hot-air balloon ride. The second basket
will be a Health and Wellness basket with various health-related items.
Showcase Oldham County is a celebration of Oldham Countys
economic successes, said Karem. It gives businesses and
agencies a chance to showcase their products and services, get in some
great networking, and access dedicated as well as new customers. Overall,
we utilize it as a chance to celebrate with the business community.
