Madison Main Street Programs Music in the
Park series, which has been a popular event for more than a decade
in the historic river town, will once again provide a variety of family
friendly summer concerts. With the exception of the Madison Fest Block
Party, which was held on June 11, all Music in the Park
events begin at 7 p.m. at the Broadway Fountain. In case of rain, the
concerts are held in the Brown Gym on Broadway, between First Street
and Vaughn Drive. The free, family event also includes balloons, face
painting and a concession stand.
We are thrilled to offer these concerts for our community,
said event organizer Gerry Reilly. They are a way for everyone
to get together and just have some fun. The regular season concerts
are always held on the second Friday evening of the month.
The first of the regular series concerts is scheduled for July 9 and
will feature Cloigheann, a one-of-a-kind, traditional Irish and bluegrass
roots band. Theyve performed in Madison before, and are
a fun group to see, said Reilly. They have a solid mix of
originals, reels, gigs and much more.
Cloigheann (pronounced like cloggin) has been playing together
for more than 15 years and has what they call a unique blend of
green grass (Irish) and bluegrass sounds.
Conch on the Half Shell, part of the larger Conch Republic, is a Lexington,
Ky., based, lively acoustic group featuring music with a tropical sound.
The group will bring its blend of congas, steel drums, ukulele and acoustic
guitar to the stage on Aug. 13.
Wear your Hawaiian shirts or parrot hats and come listen to the
bands troprock sound, said Reilly. The group
plays a variety of music that includes everything from Jamaican island
sounds to Jimmy Buffett and the Beach Boys.

For the final regular season concert, Louisville, Ky.s
Edgewood will perform on Sept. 10. This group is going to be a
treat to see, said Reilly. There are five musicians who
bring tight vocals and high energy to some lively sets of rocking country
music.
During special Madison Chautauqua Festival of Arts concert, the popular
local group The Doctors Band will perform oldies rock favorites
at 7-9 p.m. at the Broadway Fountain on Saturday evening, Sept. 25.
Everybody around here has heard the Doctors Band and loves
them, said Reilly. We always try to make sure we get a variety
of music for concert goers, and we try to be different each year. I
think people are going to be happy with what they hear this year.
Although the concerts are free, Madison Main Street Program does encourage
sponsorship in order to ensure the quality and continuation of the event.
There are numerous levels of sponsorship available, and businesses and
individuals can choose to sponsor one concert or all of them.
