(February 2013) – You can say it with flowers, you can say it with cake, you can say it with a card or you can shout it from the rooftop. But the newest, trendiest way to say it is with a wine bottle.
Of all the countless ways a couple can announce their nuptials, printing the information on the label of a wine bottle gives them a creative, personal option that is uniquely their own.

Custom
wine bottle labels are becoming
popular for weddings,
special events.

Fiekert’s Homestead Wines in Rising Sun, Ind., has been printing custom wine bottle labels since its establishment. The winery, located at 412 S. High St., is owned by Ken and Vicky Fiekert. The winery operates out of their historic 101 year old home, which is only a few short blocks from Main Street.
“When we started the winery, we started printing custom labels for the bottles,” said Vicky Fiekert. It has since become a popular idea for couples who are getting married to purchase the Fiekert’s wine and have a personalized custom-made label put on each bottle.
There are no hidden fees or costs. The only requirement is that you purchase a case (12 bottles) of wine, said Fiekert. While there is no venue at the winery to hold weddings, “we had quite a few couples buy wine from us last spring for weddings and for anniversaries,” she said.
The bride and groom are responsible for providing a photo of themselves, which Fiekert’s husband artistically transfers onto the label. “He’s the graphics person,” she said.
The Fiekerts prefer to have a photograph emailed to them, and they have a special printer in their home to create the labels. Engagement photos work well also, said Fiekert.
The couple started Fiekerts Homestead Wines because “my husband and I had done wine for years,” said Fiekert. “We decided to make it a business.”
She said they produce a good, homemade product. “It is unique because we give it our own personal touch.”
Each batch is hand crafted using the finest juices obtained from wine regions around the world. These high quality juices ferment into excellent smooth, low sulfide wines.
The wine is carefully monitored from the initial fermentation stage to the final bottling of the product. Customers can choose dry, semi-sweet or dessert wines from an extensive selection of red, white and specialty wines.
The winery offers free wine tastings in a fun, casual atmosphere. Fiekert said they recently held a wine tasting for a bridal party. The very next day, “they were able to pick up a case of wine with the bridal party’s picture on it from pictures that had been taken the previous evening during the wine tasting,” said Fiekert.
A complete package is offered to customers who choose to make their own batch of wine. It includes bottles, corks, decorative foils and custom labels. The entire process can be completed and ready to bottle within six to eight weeks.
Fiekert said that as far as she knew, their winery was the only one in the area that makes personalized, custom labels for its customers. A visit to Fiekert Homestead Wines can provide a couple with the opportunity to create a keepsake that will last a lifetime.
