New Gallery 104 exhibit opens
May 22 featuring reused items
Oldham’s Mueller won last year’s inaugural show
LA GRANGE, Ky. (May 2014) – The Arts Association of Oldham County’s Gallery 104 in La Grange will go “green” when it plays host to its second annual Found-Recycled Art Show, beginning May 22 and continuing until June 28.
“We are taking it a bit beyond the classic three Rs of ‘reduce, reuse, and recycle,’ ” said Elizabeth Kirkwood, show chair and exhibiting artist at Gallery 104.
Robbie Mueller won last
year’s Found/Recycled Art
Show, with his entry titled,
“Can’t Handle This Anymore.”
“We are celebrating art that can be created from any non-traditional media, whether the material is recycled, refurbished, reformatted, reclaimed, regenerated or repurposed or any combination of all of those.”

According to Kirkwood, the resulting exhibit will showcase some of the most creative and interesting art to be found in the region this spring. “Visitors will be able to see that anything can be made into something new again, something to be treasured all over again,” she said.
Kirkwood said that last year’s show generated fascinating artwork. “We had pieces that used old family photos, weathered wood, metal cans, plastic bottles and other throw-aways like car parts, toys, computer, and construction materials, all re-shaped and re-worked into new and interesting artwork,” she said. “I can’t wait to see what people come up with this year.”
The juried show opens with a reception at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Gallery 104 in La Grange. It will feature awards for the winning artists. The first-place winner will receive $300, second place $150 and third place $75. The show will run until June 29 and is open to all artists, whether members or non-members of the Arts Association of Oldham County. Entry deadline is midnight, Wednesday, May 7, and artists may submit up to three pieces of original art. A prospectus detailing the rules, entry details and awards for the winners can be found on the association’s website at http://aaooc.org. Entries also are available at Gallery 104, located at 104 E.
