Harley Dougherty (above and below) of Jeffersonville, Ky., will demonstrate his talents at the St. James Episcopal Arts and Crafts Show on Oct. 25 in Pewee Valley, Ky.

“I really enjoy carving North America wildlife,” says Dougherty, who resides in Jeffersonville, Ky., near Mt. Sterling. “I have a wonderful wife, Melody, who has supported my dream of making this my career.
“A lot of chain saw carvers have had to get out of the business in the last couple of years and go into other jobs or just give up carving because they couldn’t make it. I’m one of a handful who have prospered. I’m in the top 4 percent in the business right now, so I’ve been very fortunate.”
After growing up near Kentucky’s Red River Gorge, Dougherty served in the U.S. Army and Kentucky National Guard. He served on active duty in the Gulf War.
The Arts and Crafts Day in Pewee Valley takes place at 401 Lagrange Rd. in Pewee Valley, Ky. Show organizers includes members from St. James Episcopal, Presbyterian and St. Aloysius Churches. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is presented by the Pewee Valley Woman’s Club.
