The Rigbys band to headline lineup at June event

CRESTWOOD, Ky. (June 2015) – The Rigbys have been called one of the biggest, most successful musical acts of the 20th century. The Louisville-based band will bring their Beatles-inspired sound to the eighth annual Crestwood Festival this year.
Known as Louisville’s “premier Beatles cover band,” the five-man band has performed at Abbey Road on the River since 2005. Abbey Road on the River is a music festival in Louisville honoring the Fab Four.
The Rigbys is a group formed by veteran musicians who play a wide selection of Beatles tunes ranging from 1962 to the present. The band provides an energetic, entertaining and enthusiastic performance the audience won’t soon forget.
The band is made up of Mark Beyer on keyboards, Gary Metcalf on guitar and vocals, Troy Clampitt on guitar and vocals, Eric Ken on bass and vocals and Duane Smith on drums. They have played at international Beatles festivals, corporate and private functions and a variety of concert venues such as Smith Berry Winery in Henry County, Ky.

The Rigbys are a popular Beatles tribute band that performs in the area, including at the annual Abbey Road on the River Festival in Louisville

The Rigbys will perform from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Crestwood Festival, which is sponsored by the South Oldham Lions Club and held at Crestwood Elementary School, 6500 W. Hwy. 146.
“They are a group that has performed in the area for a number of years,” said Dudley Thompson, Lions Club member in charge of entertainment. “They are this year’s main performer and will play classic rock and roll for the crowd.”
Country music performer Jordan Bales will take the stage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to The Rigbys show. “He performed at last year’s festival,” said Thompson.
Three years ago, Bales, his mother and sister performed at a Christmas dinner for the Lions Club, impressing the group enough to ask them to perform at the festival.
The 2014 festival was held at the South Oldham School Campus but had to move to a new location this year because of construction at the previous site. Festival chairman Koss Kinser said the festival will include arts and crafts, a car show, food, and bouncies.
The car show was a very popular addition last year, drawing in about 35 vehicles. It is open to all types of cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles. There is a $20 entry fee.
The car show will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include a $100 giveaway and door prizes, said car show organizer Paul Croak. “We would like to have 100 cars entered this year,” he said.
“We plan to have plenty of activities geared around kids,” said Kinser. The South Oldham Lions Club is very active in the community with their KidSight Program. “This is our main thing now.”
The KidSight Program is a free vision screening program to identify children, ages nine months through five years, who have vision problems. The screening can detect problems such as Amblyopia (lazy eye), nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and several other vision problems.
Lions Club member Garry Newson said that “in the last three years, over 3,000 children in Oldham County in 15 different preschools have been screened.” The screenings target these particular ages because this is the critical time for the development of their eyes.
Members go on-sight to preschools within the county to perform the screenings with a special camera. “We can do as many as 35 to 40 screenings an hour,” said Newson.
After the test, a report is given to the parent or guardian and he is encouraged to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist or optometrist if results show this is needed.
“We purchased the camera three years ago at a cost of $7,000,” Newson said. “We would like to purchase another camera. It costs a lot, but it does a lot.”
Newson said, “The earlier detection takes place, the better the chance at solving the issue. It’s a great service for families here in Oldham County.”
The South Oldham Lions Club donates various monies to local organizations. The Crestwood Festival is a way to help spread the word about the charitable things they do within the county.
