September is a busy month for festivals throughout the area

to play Shawe Summer Festival

(September 2019) – September is a big month for area festivals throughout Kentuckiana, so here is a look at some of those not already featured separately inside this edition of RoundAbout.

The Louisville Crashers band will perform Saturday night, Sept. 7 at the Shawe & Pope John Summer Festival in Madison, Ind. The Rumors band will perform on Friday, Sept. 6.

• The Shawe & Pope John Summer Festival is scheduled for Sept. 6-7 at the school campus at 201 W. State St. in Madison, Ind. The two-day fundraiser features a Friday night fish fry from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and live music from 8:30-11:30 p.m. by The Rumors. Saturday night features a fried chicken dinner from 6-8 p.m. and live music from 8:30-11:30 p.m. by The Rumors. On Saturday, the event will feature The Louisville Crashers playing from 8:30-11:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. The event also features a beer garden, carnival rides and kids’ games. There will be two $5,000 cash giveaways with only 200 raffle tickets sold for $200 each. To purchase a raffle ticket, call (812) 273-5835, extension 246.
• The Chelsea Jubilee marks its 153rd year and is planned for Sept. 7-8 at the park on Hwy. 62 in Chelsea, Ind. The event is billed as Indiana’s oldest festival. The festival includes arts and crafts, live music, games, food and children’s games. There is also a pedal pull, penny search, sack race, hay bale toss, water balloons and bubblegum contest. No alcohol or pets are allowed. For more information, call (812) 866-4178.
The Commiskey Fall Festival is planned for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 20-22, in Commiskey, Ind. The event features the Famous Donkey Race, Greased Pig Contest and the Redneck Olympics, plus arts and crafts vendors, parade, cake walk, corn hole tournament and food. Friday’s music will feature the No Name Band at 8:30 p.m. Saturday’s music will feature the Keith Swinney Band at 8:30 p.m. For more information, call (812) 873-6318.
The Trimble County Apple Festival returns Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 7-8, around the Courthouse Square in Bedford, Ky. This will mark the 29th year for the popular local free event. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event features more than 70 vendors and includes apple pie judging and auction, arts and crafts vendor booths, face painting, a quilt exhibit and raffle, apple cider relay, food and live music both days.
There also are pageants associated with the festival, such as the Mr. and Mrs. Apple Festival, Sweetheart and Princess, Little Miss and Mr. contests and Mrs. Golden Apple. The Trimble County Historical Society will showcase the ancient jailhouse, and kids can make their own creation with a clay potter. Music on Saturday will be provided by the Trimble County High School Band at 1 p.m., Michael Jacobs at 2 p.m. and Luke Reinhart at 3 p.m. The Juggernaut Jug Band will perform at 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, music will feature James Puckett at 12:30 p.m. and the Jordan Wilson Coalition at 3 p.m. The quilt drawing will conclude the festival at 4 p.m.
Vendors are welcome to apply for vendor space. Proceeds from the festival help raise money for local schools, and civic and community groups that support the betterment of the community. For more information on these events, call (502) 552-4362 or visit the website  www.TrimbleAppleFest.org.
• The Hispanic Cultural Awareness Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, around the Broadway Fountain in Madison, Ind. This free event, hosted by the Indiana Adoption Program, celebrates Hispanic culture with food, dance performance, exhibits and demonstrations.
