Flea Off Main marks official opening on Madison’s Main Street
New business offers full service shipping
and unique gift shop
(November 2020) – When the nation screeched to a halt in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, entrepreneur Chandler Morris took advantage of the slowdown in his life to pursue a dream and open Flea Off Main at 113 E. Main St. in Madison, Ind. The shop, which held its grand opening on Oct. 24, offers full service FedEx and UPS shipping, along with select home décor brands and seasonal items.
Morris was working as a bartender in Louisville, Ky., after stepping back from his career as an emergency medical technician (EMT). “I needed a break from trauma, so I tried something different,” he said.
Madison Area Chamber of Commerce members on Oct. 24 join in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Flea Off Main. Owner Chandler Morris is pictured at center with scissors.
Between life, work and Army National Guard service, Morris said he had little time to work on his plans to own a business until the pandemic forced restaurants and bars to close. “Honestly, the virus enabled me to do what I’ve wanted,” he said.
After treating his mother to a visit to Madison earlier in the spring, he realized he was about to make a monumental decision and live his dream. “I found Madison to be progressive yet historic and completely fascinating,” he said. “I knew this is where I wanted to open my business.”
Flea Off Main opened in August 2020 as a brick and mortar business, but the business has operated online since 2019.
The full-service shipping includes a packing service with all the necessary materials and a unique safe package delivery service. “Packages can be sent to our store, where people can pick them up,” said Morris, who believes the service will relieve homeowner fears of porch package thefts.
Shipping isn’t the only thing that will attract people to the shop. The array of gift ideas, seasonal décor and unique brands and collections will definitely keep a shopper’s attention.
“We are the only licensed carrier of Rae Dunn pottery and stemware in between Louisville and Cincinnati,” said Morris. Rae Dunn ceramics are well-known globally for their naturalistic look with simplistic wording.
Attorney Joe Morris, who is not related to Chandler, is a friend who has helped with the Flea Off Main’s set up. “This is a great shop, and there are so many great gift ideas here,” he said.
Joe Morris, who has traveled daily from his home in Louisville to Madison to help Chandler, said he loves the town and has entertained the idea of eventually relocating himself.
Flea Off Main carries soft dishtowels from the French fabric company, La Cigale, hand-blown Egyptian perfume bottles, hand-crafted soap dispensaries and lamps, Old World Christmas Ginger Cottages, gluten-free Green Chili Jams and much more.
“My focus for the shop is to specialize in a few good brands and be very knowledgeable about them,” he said, “I also want to include items unique for Madison because the local support has been outstanding. There have been so many hands helping to make this happen.”
