VEVAY, Ind. (November 2004) Anyone who loves to
decorate, loves looking at decorations, or just loves Christmas should
take a trip to Linda Mains house in Vevay, Ind. She opens her
home to visitors over two weekends each December so they can enjoy her
elaborate decorations and 18 Christmas trees.

The trees are each decorated in different themes. Most
of them are indoors, however, three are outside along with other lights
and yard decorations. Guests are welcome to stay for five minutes or
all day long. Main loves sharing her decorations.
While strolling through the house, visitors can enjoy cookies and punch
provided by their hostess. Children can visit with Santa (Lindas
husband, Ronald). Before leaving, guests are welcome to take a candy
cane from the candy cane tree and children can pick a gift
from the basket that Main puts out.
Main has always loved Christmas and has always done a lot of decorating.
When she moved to Vevay, she had a large bedroom and decided she would
add a tree. This continued, and she came to a point where she was decorating
nearly every room in the house. Because she does not have a good eye
for decorating, she decided to use themes on each tree.
Using themes also caused her to add more trees. When she saw the Disney
Storybook Collection, she loved it so much that she had to use it in
her home. When she bought an antique bed for one of the rooms in her
house, she thought it would only be fitting to decorate a tree in that
room with antique ornaments. In the spirit of keeping the themes
going, she also changes items, such as bedding and accessories, to match
each of the trees and she is always adding more ornaments.
It takes about 20 hours for Main and her daughter, Shelli Calvert, also
of Vevay, to decorate the trees and the house. Main and her son put
the trees up for them the day after Thanksgiv-ing, and then the two
ladies get to work decorating.
Main says she loves all of her trees and cannot pick a favorite, but
she especially loves the tree in her living room. It is adorned with
angels. She also loves the tree decorated with the Disney Storybook
Collection ornaments. Main said that children also love the Disney tree,
and adults tend to favor the angel tree and the Santa tree, which is
complete with a Santa head tree topper.
This year, Mains home at 1782 Hwy. 56, will be open for the public
from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 4-5 to correspond with the annual Vevay
Over the River event. It will open again those same hours on Dec.
18-19.
