Courthouse roof work
(February 2010) Roof construction on the fire-damaged
Jefferson County Courthouse continued at an aggressive pace in January
despite cold temperatures and one significant snowfall early in the
month. The courthouse was ravished by fire on May 20.
Harmon Construction workers received shipment of wooden
trusses and began lifting them onto the 40-foot-high roof and nailing
them into place. Next came the wooden rafters, which began going up.
Discussions are under way with companies about constructing a new cupola
and dome that would be added later to the roof. A bid package is expected
to be ready for review in early February, according to American Structurepoint
consultants who were hired to assist in the renovation.
