Wallers fascination with botanical themes began
six years ago. Her first artistic focus, sketching and painting
the human figure, continues as a strong interest. She prefers
working from life, and is a regular participant in the Tuesday night
drawing class at the West Street Art Center in Madison.
Her artists statement evokes Leonardo daVinci who said Of
the original phenomena, light is the most enthralling.
I, too, am captivated by the interplay of light across and through
familiar forms of leaves, fabric, glass, flesh and bone. Lights
interaction with form is complex and fascinating. Light alters
colors and shadows, creating contrast, transforming ordinary scenes
into mysterious and dramatic visions. I love challenging myself
to do it justice through my art.
Waller was born in La Grange, Ky., and attended the Louisville School
of Art in Anchorage. With encouragement and guidance from long
time friend (and LSA alumnus) Martin Rollins, she began painting at
the Crescent Moon Studio in Louisville.
Her large-scale paintings of caladium leaves caught the attention of
Craig Caviar, who led to her first solo show in 2007 at Kaviar Forge
Gallery. Other showings include the Madison Art Club Gallery, the
Hanover College Greiner Gallery at Hanover College, the Artisan Gallery
in Madison, and The Brown Hotel Gallery in Louisville.
The public is invited to attend, meet the artist and enjoy dulcimer
music by Bill Wiseman. This event is free and does not require reservations.
Other activities in town that evening include free carriage rides, dining,
open studios, and live music on the street.
