Organizer Melissa Blankenship said it all began “with the goal to highlight the best of what Henry County has to offer in terms of agriculture products from dedicated farmers and craft items from talented artisans. We have never strayed from that goal and hold fast to our roots – much like our farming community does. It’s a large, free, family friendly event that all ages can enjoy.”
It is an event that “is so unique,” said Jakob Beckley, Marketing Coordinator for the Showcase. “I don’t know
of any other festival like this one.”
He said it started out being a small event at the Henry County Courthouse, “and it has grown and grown every year. It’s not only a fun event, but we hope it’s a learning experience.”
He said the Showcase celebrates the county’s rich agricultural heritage. “As society gets more technologically advanced, it’s important to understand the dynamics behind agriculture and where things come from.”
“This year’s event is fairly traditional” in terms of what attendees have come to expect, said Blankenship. “People will enjoy the experience they have come to love over the years. We hated to cancel last year’s event, but in hindsight, it was absolutely the right decision in terms of protecting the health and safety of our vendors and attendees.”
One of the things visitors seem to like best about it is the “opportunity to purchase locally made or produced meat, produce and crafts and they love the food because it’s all amazing,” she said. “They enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones. Families with children especially love seeing the tractors and farm animals and engaging in kid’s activities and games, and music lovers hear some fabulous entertainment. There’s something for everyone.”
Blankenship continued, saying, “We can’t thank our sponsors enough. It is only through their generosity that we can offer this event at no charge to attendees and vendors alike. That community spirit and support is invaluable, and we couldn’t provide this annual event without them.”
She thinks “everybody is ready to get out and enjoy themselves. We hope they remember what a great time they had at past Harvest Showcases and mark their calendars for July 31. And if folks haven’t been before, we hope they choose to come see us this year.”
