beginning in late June

MADISON, Ind. (June 2003) – The following festival events are planned for late June in conjunction with the 2003 Budweiser Madison Regatta Supported by Belterra Casino Resort. Entry information is provided:

Cruisin' Auto 3 on 3 Streetball Jamboree: 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Madison's Riverfront-Vaughn Drive. Grades 3-4 are $40 per team, 5-12 are $50 per team, Adult (19-over) are $70 per team. 13 Divisions. Call Brad Warren at (812) 265-3214 or the Regatta office at (812) 265-5000. Entry deadline June 13 with a $10 late fee payment after deadline through June 21. Event T-shirt given to all who participate with trophies to the top two teams in each division.

June 30
Xi Beta Upsilon Miss Madison Regatta Beauty Pageant: 8 p.m. at the Ohio Theatre. Entrants must be 18-26 years of age. Winner to receive a $500 scholarship and various other awards. She should be available to represent the community in all Regatta-related activities during the week and weekend following the pageant. The first runner-up will receive a $100 scholarship and the second runner-up will receive a $50 scholarship. Contact Linda Ralston at (812) 866-2416.

July 2
River Valley Financial Bank Bed Race: 6 p.m. on Main Street in front of the Jefferson County Courthouse. Entry fee is $50 per team. Theme: Armed Forces/military in honor of the U.S. troops overseas and everywhere in-between. Contact Tasha Jenkins at (812) 273-4949. Applications can also be picked up at the main River Valley Financial Bank Branch on the hilltop next to Frisch's Big Boy.

Music on the River events sponsored by Big O Tires, Papa John's Pizza, Ponderosa Steakhouse and Mom's Music: Aall events at Fireman's Park on the riverfront, 7-11 p.m.
Thursday, July 3: Radio 96.3 WJAA Battle of the Bands: Applications are being sought for the annual Battle of the Bands competition. Winner receives $100 plus eight hours of recording studio time at Fruitfull Records. Contact Rusty Bladen at (812) 265-3075 or email: rustyb333@adelphia.net. Materials can be sent to: Madison Regatta Battle of the Bands, Attn: Rusty Bladen, P.O. Box 341, Madison, IN 47250. Required with a completed application must be an application fee of $5 (non-refundable) per act-check or money order to Madison Regatta, Inc., a current biographical information, a recent photo (8x10 if possible), a map of your stage setup, and one music/performance sample that is reflective of your stage performance. Send sample in CD or video/DVD format only.
Other entertainment sought: One entertainment slot is available on Friday night (July 4) and one on Saturday night (July 5). Any bands / singers / songwriters interested in playing should contact Rusty Bladen.
Friday, July 4: 95.3 WIKI, 92.7 WJCP & EAGLE 93.1 / 103.1 present Cactus Jack, Jimmy D. & The Third Degree, more TBA.
Saturday, July 5: WORX 96.7 FM / WXGO 1270 AM present Stompbox, Rusty Bladen, more TBA.

Festival to precede three-day race weekend
This year's Madison Regatta festival will run from June 28 to July 6, with the race events occurring on the July 5-6 weekend. These include Hydro-Prop’s Budweiser Unlimited Hydroplane Series presented by BoatShopper, and the Bob Snelling Vintage Memorial Event with 30 vintage hydroplanes and a thrilling air show. There are many other events leading up to race weekend. These events include a Regatta queen pageant and music festival, plus the Vaughn Drive midway. Madison Regatta elects 2004 officers
Elections were held at the monthly Regatta Membership Meeting held on May 7 at the American Legion Post No. 9. In addition to the Board of Directors elected the past two years for three-year terms and the Past President Ann Geyman, the 2004 Madison Regatta Committee will consist of president Mike Adams, vice president Nate Davis, treasurer Crystal McHargue, race chairman Jon Tucker, assistant race chairman Scott Tebbe and festival chairman Monte Sever. Board of Directors elected to a three-year term included Bill Potter, Fred Farley, Buddy Gaw and Larry Grippo.
