Guthrie and lead vocalist Leah Koehler will join Whalebone members John Adkins on keyboards, Joe Perkinson on guitar and keyboards, and Dennis O’Neal on drums. The Blues Devils will go on stage at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, one of two local bands that have been added to this year’s Blues Bash schedule.
“We’re excited to be playing the Ribberfest again, and I think people will really enjoy our sound. We have some really talented musicians joining us, which has given us a lot of diversity in both music and vocals,” Guthrie said.
The other local band, The Jimmy Davis Band, takes the stage at 3 p.m. Saturday. This band features well known local guitarist Davis along with a full group of musicians that include Rob Bennett, Brook Reindollar, Nick Cicenas and Chris Watson. The group will perform some old blues tunes and some of their original work as well. The band will perform some of the music off of their new CD, "Down For So Long," which was released in July and is available at Mom's Music, Nextel and all of their performances. Dr. David Butler, chairman of the Blues Bash, said "The Jimmy Davis Band is always a favorite in Madison and always puts on a great show."
Other bands other than the two headliners, Roomful of Blues (see page 13) and The Fabulous Thunderbirds (see pages 10-11) in the lineup include:

• Miranda Louise: A well-known and loved mainstay of the southern blues scene, this singer-songwriter has been singing in amphitheatres, nightclubs and performing in blues festivals throughout the United States, Europe and the Carribean for 15 years. As a master and demo studio musician based out of Nashville, Tenn., her career has been well-documented.

• Roy Rogers & the Delta Rhythm Kings: This group has been covered by scores of national and international media for the last 25 years. They have toured the world with the highest acclaim.
Rogers has appeared on numerous national television programs, including CNN, “Late Night with David Letterman” and “Austin City Limits.” Blues Bash committee member Dave Butler called Rogers a “phenomenal slide guitarist.”

• One Shot Johnny: This group is a three-piece blues band hailing from south central Kentucky. Band members include Jeremiah “Machine Drum” Kelly on drums, Joe Shirley on bass, and Randy Colvin on guitar. The group plays a mix of modern and tradition blues, including some original work. One Shot Johnny has gigged around Kentuck-iana for years and has built a considerable following in the central Kentucky and Louisville areas.

• Bettye LaVette: With her remarkable vocal range and stamina, Lavette has been called one of soul music’s finest and most accomplished exponents. During her 40-year career, LaVette has rightfully earned her reputation as a true legend of soul music, a performer whose magnificent voice and dynamic stage presence continues to win accolades wherever she appears. LaVette is known as a “singer’s singer,” a performer whose soulful delivery has earned the respect and praise of her contemporaries, including many musical legends.

• Johnny Hoy & the Bluefish: Hoy has been called a “blues poet” and a soul-shaking singer and harp player fronting the roots-rocking Bluefish.
Hoy’s talent has earned him respect and celebrity among blues fans throughout the world. “We are just delighted that we managed to get such another talented act for our festival,” Butler said
