Dixon heads to Kentucky
with four victories so far this season

(August 2008) – Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon has finished second two years running at the annual Indy Racing League’s IndyCar Series race at Kentucky Speedway. Dixon will try to break that streak and record a victory when Dixon arrives for the Aug. 9 “Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Pepsi and Edy’s” IndyCar Series race at Kentucky Speedway.

As the current points leader in the IRL’s premier racing series, this may be the season for Dixon to do just that. The Kentucky Speedway race begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by the IRL’s Firestone Indy Light’s “Kentucky 100” at 9:15 p.m.
Already, the Auckland, New Zealand, citizen has garnered four victories during the 2008 season, including the May 25, Indianapolis 500. He has also finished in the top four in nine of the 11 races run so far this season.
In 2007, Dixon finished second in the IndyCar Series’ points standing. That season included wins at Watkins Glen, Nashville, Mid-Ohio and Infineon raceways. He became only the third driver in IndyCar Series history to win three consecutive races.
With his victory at Watkins Glen, he joined driver Dan Wheldon as the only two drivers to win three consecutive races at one track.

He recorded a series best 13 top-five finishes and 16 top-10 finishes, and lead a series-best 13 of 17 races. He finished first or second in 10 of the 17 races.
Born July 22, 1980, in Australia, Dixon, who currently resides in Indianapolis, began racing at the age of 13.His parents, Ron and Glenys, were both dirt track races. He competed in Formula Vee, Formula Ford and Formula Holden in New Zealand and Australia. He won the Australian Formula Holden championship for Formula 3000, the New Zealand Formula Ford Class I championship, the New Zealand Formula Ford Class II championship and the New Zealand Formula Vee champion at the age of 13.
In 1999, Dixon competed in his first season of racing in North America with Johansson Motorsports in the Dayton Indy Lights series. He won at Chicago, where he led from the pole. He finished fifth in the series’ championship and second in the Rookie of the Year standings. In 2000, he won the Dayton Indy Lights series with victories in six of 12 races.
In 2001, Dixon won the Champ Car CART Series Jim Trueman Rookie of the Year Award and finished eighth in CART point standings, and in 2002, moved to racing with Target Chip Ganassi Racing.

In 2003 at Homestead-Miami, Dixon became only the third driver in series history to win his first start of the IndyCar Series. He clinched the series championship with three wins for the season, earned five poles, and became the first driver to lead consecutive laps over the course of three races.
Off the track, Dixon, who is married to wife, Emma, enjoys tinkering with gadgets. He tries to keep up with the latest cell phones and also likes to buy watches. In the latest offseason, he began training for his pilot’s license. He worked on becoming “instrument rated,” which would allow him to fly in poor flying conditions.
